Richard Morgan

Mr Morgan CBiol, MIBiol, DipRCPath, Principal of Medicines Development Limited has over 25 years experience in pharmaceutical research and development.

Early in his career Mr Morgan worked with Wellcome (Beckenham, UK) as a Pathologist and Toxicologist. During this period he was a member of numerous Drug Discovery and Development Project Teams and worked on a wide range of projects.

Mr Morgan has held various senior management positions within Preclinical Safety including Head of Toxicology at Wellcome plc and International Head of Toxicology and Preclinical Outsourcing for GlaxoWellcome plc.

With GlaxoWellcome (later GlaxoSmithKline) Mr Morgan was responsible for the Preclinical Safety Evaluation of over 100 new chemical entities (NCE’s), covering areas as diverse as CNS, CVS, Respiratory, Metabolic, Anti-Infectives, Anti-Parasitics, Neuromuscular blockers, Oncology, Monoclonals, and Vaccines.

Mr Morgan has been involved in the development of a large number of successfully marketed products including Lamictal (Epilepsy), Zomig (Migraine), Malarone (PCP/Malaria), Atracurium (NMB), Wellbutrin (Antidepressant/ Smoking Cessation), Zovirax, Zidovudine, Lamivudine (Anti-Virals) and Exosurf (Infant RDS).

After leaving GlaxoSmithKline plc and after a period as Interim Head of Preclinical for PowderJect Pharmaceuticals, Mr Morgan established his own consultancy company (R&B HealthCare Ltd), providing advice on Toxicology and Preclinical Discovery and Development to client companies in the UK and Australia.

Mr Morgan is a member of the board of Cogstate Ltd and sits on the Advisory Boards of a number of Australian biotech companies and holds C.Biol. M.I.Biol (Laboratory Animal Pathology) from the Institute of Biology and Dip.RCPath (Toxicology) from the Royal College of Pathologists.
