"Daily intake of gluten or a 1/100th of a slice of  standard bread damages the intestine in coeliac  sufferers."

Jason Tye-Din

Consulting Scientist

Dr Jason Tye-Din MBBS, FRACP, PhD is a gastroenterologist, coeliac disease researcher, and consultant to Nexpep.

Dr Tye-Din's doctoral research based at the prestigious Walter and Eliza Hall Institute in Melbourne, Australia, studied the impact of gluten on the immune system in coeliac disease and has been published in several highly-regarded peer-reviewed medical journals.

This research has generated a comprehensive understanding of the toxicity of gluten in wheat, rye, barley, and oats by utilising an innovative system to screen these grains in over 300 Australian coeliac disease volunteers. In addition to supporting the design of a peptide-based immunotherapeutic vaccine, this work has identified the critical gluten proteins that will underpin the development of better diagnostic tests for coeliac disease, and support the design of non-toxic gluten.

Dr Tye-Din runs a busy coeliac clinical practice, and works closely with both State and National Coeliac Societies to promote better awareness, management, and research of this prevalent disease.

Dr Tye-Din is engaged in regular presentations to general practitioners, physicians, dietitians, and the general public, and hopes to apply his expertise in this field and association with Nexpep to develop solutions to improve the quality of life for sufferers of coeliac disease.
